Waffle Stitch
Also known as: Waffle crochet
Front post double crochets worked around the plain stitches of the row below, and plain double crochets worked into the post stitches, so the raised columns step back and forth into a grid of squares that look like a waffle. Thick, cozy, and deeply textured.
How to Waffle Stitch
1. Start with a row of dc, in a multiple of 3 stitches.
2. Row A: dc in the first st, *FPdc around the next st, dc in the next 2 sts*, repeat across, ending FPdc around the next st, dc in the last st.
3. Row B: dc in the first st, *dc in the next st, FPdc around the next 2 sts*, repeat across, ending dc in the next st, dc in the last st.
4. Repeat rows A and B.
💡 Pro Tips
The waffle stitch uses a LOT of yarn — about 30% more than plain dc. But the texture and warmth are worth it. Great for dishcloths and blankets.
