Foundation Single Crochet
Also known as: Chainless foundation
Makes the starting chain and the first row of single crochet at the same time. The edge is as stretchy as the rest of the fabric.
How to Foundation Single Crochet
1. Ch 2. Insert hook in the 2nd ch from hook, pull up a loop (2 loops).
2. Yarn over, pull through 1 loop — this is the 'chain'.
3. Yarn over, pull through both loops — this is the 'sc'.
4. Insert hook under the 2 loops of the chain you just made, pull up a loop, and repeat steps 2-3.
💡 Pro Tips
Use it when a starting chain keeps coming out too tight, such as for hat brims and sweater hems.
