Chevron (Ripple) Stitch

Also known as: Ripple, zigzag, wave stitch

Increases and decreases placed at regular intervals across every row, so the fabric rises into peaks and falls into valleys. Stripes make it sing.

How to Chevron (Ripple) Stitch

1. Work over a multiple of 12 stitches plus 1. 2. Each row: sc2tog over the first 2 sts, sc in the next 4 sts, *3 sc in the next st (peak), sc in the next 4 sts, sc3tog (valley), sc in the next 4 sts*, repeat across to the last 7 sts, 3 sc in the next st, sc in the next 4 sts, sc2tog over the last 2 sts. 3. Every peak sits on a peak and every valley on a valley.

💡 Pro Tips

Count each row — one missed increase and the waves drift. Change colour every few rows for a classic ripple blanket.
