Filet Mesh

Also known as: Open mesh, filet crochet, net stitch

Double crochets separated by chain-1 spaces, stacked so each dc sits on a dc and each space on a space. A light grid that is the base of filet crochet and market bags.

How to Filet Mesh

1. Work over an odd number of stitches. 2. First mesh row: dc in first st, *ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st*, repeat across. 3. Next rows: dc in first st, *ch 1, skip the ch-1 space, dc in next dc*, repeat across. 4. To finish, work a solid row: dc in each st and each ch-1 space.

💡 Pro Tips

Filling some squares with a dc instead of a space draws pictures — that is filet crochet.
